So yeah, crap, my car broke down. My old mechanic who I really liked and trusted to be fair isn’t around any more, so I have to find a new mechanic.
It is so hard these days to find a mechanic that is honest and won’t try to upsell every small problem you have. You go in for an oil change, they give you a laundry list of problems they’ve discovered. You go in for a new tire and you leave with a tune up and new brakes. It gets expensive! Of course safety is an issue, it’s important that the tires and brakes work well, but who has that kind of money to plunk down unexpectedly?
I think I will ask friends and neighbors who they use and try to get a referral. That is usually better than picking a random garage out of the phone book. I used to count on big chain shops with name recognition, but the turnover of mechanics is so high that you really never know who is going to be doing the actual work on your car and whether they are any good. I would rather find one guy who owns his own shop or who has been a long time employee at a local shop so I can build a relationship with him and be able to trust his work.
Do you know anyone? I need a good one ASAP!
Something is wrong with the rear tire on the passenger side. Thank god I see that side of the car before climbing into the drivers seat and heading out. The tire was almost flat this morning and I had to drive down to the gas station to use their air station before I got on the highway.
I looked all over for a nail or screw in the tire and can’t find anything, but there must be something wrong for the tire to go so flat in just a day or two. The tread is not all that bad, but now that I’m looking at tires, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to get a new set put on and then I won’t have to worry about slow leaks or uneven wear.
Almost all the tires stores advertise that if you buy three tires then you get the fourth tire for free. I think we have all come to expect that sale promotion as normal daily business. I have to check around and see if Firestone or NTW has the best deal this weekend. I might be able to put it off an extra week for the sake of catching a sale – depending upon whether that rear tire holds air long enough or not.
I really am tired of this fucking car. I want a new one or a truck. It doesn’t have to be a big truck though a small one would do. I do like the new Jetta by VW. I test drove one the other day just for kicks and it was fast, sleek and a lot of fun to drive. Ok this one wasn’t new new, because this years model is a sedan, and the one I drove was a convertible, but it was awesome. Jetta convertible’s are hard to find, because there aren’t that many of them. I don’t think they made them for multiple years, but I will have to look that up to be sure.
This one was fully fucking loaded and the interior was immaculate. I am seriously thinking about buying it. My old car is really about to die. I have had it a long time and it was used when I got it. I have put a lot of miles on it and before it dies completely leaving me high and dry, I think it would be prudent to replace it. I will take my friend Gary with me to go look at it first though, because he is a mechanic and will check it out fully first. He will bring his computer to make sure there are no electrical problems that I shoudl be concerned about.
