Drowning in Knick Knacks

All of these little souvenirs that I’ve collected over the years are really adding up. To be honest, all they do is gather dust and take up space. But They bring back sweet memories of places I’ve been and it is really hard to just toss them all in a box and never look at them. I don’t know what to do with them all – I am drowning in knick knacks and the clutter is starting to make me feel like one of those hoarders that you see on that awful reality TV show.

My mother used to have a china cabinet in the dining room where she kept all her knick knacks displayed on glass shelves. The cabinet had glass doors, so you could see everything inside and they were protected from dust and any damage from things like bouncing balls and rowdy kids who always seem to throw things in the house and break shit and get in trouble.

I don’t even have a dining room or a china cabinet, so that doesn’t work for me. I have to put things on the fireplace mantle and on bookshelves. The problem with bookshelves is that I have a lot of actual books that need shelf space. And the book shelves are open, so things get dusty after a while. Thankfully we don’t have an issue with bouncing balls or kids. But I like to have my things out to see them and I’ve run out of bookshelves. I’m open to suggestions – anyone?

Tuesday for New Releases

Have you ever noticed that most new music CDs are released on Tuesdays? I always check my Spotify dashboard on Tuesdays to see what new albums are available. I like the way Spotify lets you hear a whole song – not just a sample like on Amazon, and then lets you buy the new music if you like it.

I made a huge playlist of adult contemporary music that I like. For some strange reason a lot of people have found my playlist online and subscribed to it. That means a couple dozen people are grooving to the songs that I picked for myself. How cool is that?

The Significance of Numbers

Everyone in America knows that the number 13 is considered an unlucky number. We observe that in a lot of strange ways, considering that it is just a superstition. But you will not find the 13 on a sport uniform, there is not 13th floor of any high rise building, and Friday the 13th is widely believed to be a bad luck day.

Strangely, people in other cultures have assigned the same significance to different numbers. So this must be a human failing – giving numbers power over our behavior is just weird to me.

Gun range

Hell fuck yea ! I went to the gun range with my buddy Arnold. He is a cop and spends a lot of time at the range. He let me shoot two of his guns and by the time I was done, I decided I want a gun of my own. We left the range and went to his favorite gun shop to browse around and fill out paperwork. I am buying a 45 Cal ACP. They are not easy to find either as most places are out of stock right now. Apparently the constant battle over gun rights has boosted sales astronomically.

The gun shop owners and gun manufacturers are happy about that, but it makes for a lot of red tape as well to buy a gun now a days. I have applied for my permit and such, but I cannot pick up my gun until after three days. That is how long it takes for the back ground check to come back. I also registered for my classes so I can get a concealed weapons permit as well. That is a bit expensive, but completely worth it. Arnold says that it is a must have. That way if I am ever pulled over the cops cannot give me too hard a time about it.

I want a new car

I really am tired of this fucking car. I want a new one or a truck. It doesn’t have to be a big truck though a small one would do. I do like the new Jetta by VW. I test drove one the other day just for kicks and it was fast, sleek and a lot of fun to drive. Ok this one wasn’t new new, because this years model is a sedan, and the one I drove was a¬†convertible, but it was awesome. Jetta convertible’s are hard to find, because there aren’t that many of them. I don’t think they made them for multiple years, but I will have to look that up to be sure.

This one was fully fucking loaded and the interior was immaculate. I am seriously thinking about buying it. My old car is really about to die. I have had it a long time and it was used when I got it. I have put a lot of miles on it and before it dies completely leaving me high and dry, I think it would be prudent to replace it. I will take my friend Gary with me to go look at it first though, because he is a mechanic and will check it out fully first. He will bring his computer to make sure there are no electrical problems that I shoudl be concerned about.
